RESEARCH CONFIRMED

Are the names Wilkinson, Jeffrey, Graham, Flt Lt Holder/Holden, Percy, Jackson, Jesse, or Elizabeth (Beth) connected to the pub?

Flt Lt E. Holden was in 501 Squadron based at Ford Aerodrome from 1940 to the end of the war, he is mentioned in the Battle Of Britain Honours list.

There is also a mention of a Perciville attached to 264 Squadron, but there are no other details known as yet.

Is this not the original pub?

Bognor Regis has had two Prince Of Wales pubs. This is the second. The original was an old thatched building dating from the 17th Century and was surrounded by a flint and picket fence with a small porch as an entrance. As bacon was also smoked in the loft of the building it was also known as 'The Bacon Loft'. The building was demolished in 1922 and was replaced by what is now known as 'The Friary'.

The present building that is known as The Prince Of Wales is also not the original building on that site. A pub has been registered on the site since 1830, but was completely destroyed by fire in 1900. The present building was then erected in the same year on the site.  See Gallery.

Was there a piano in the bar area?

The landlady Bev has confirmed that there was a piano in the bar area when they first took over the pub

Was the building refitted in the 1920's and the main entrance moved?
